Our Thanksgiving festivities were great! The turkey and dressing were amazing. Everyone had a wonderful meal and a good time.

As we approach our first Christmas together our community looks beautiful with lots of Christmas spirit.

Since opening, we have grown every week by at least one resident. It will not be long before our community is full and flourishing.

Our Holiday Open House will begin on December 12. Santa Claus will be stopping by December 22 for our community Christmas Party.

We have some exciting weeks ahead at Brookfield. Come see the progress we have made.

The Open House was a Great Success!

Over 200 people toured our building and enjoyed wonderful food prepared by Hudson Jones, our chef.
Our ribbon cutting made the front page of Hot Springs' daily newspaper, the Sentinel-Record. Here, director Pam Chenault is shown wielding the scissors. Thanks so much to the Ambassadors from the Chamber of Commerce.

Kai Raden is the New Director of the Memory Care Unit

Kai Raden is the Director of the Memory Care building. “I love working with seniors who have dementia. They still have so much to offer the world”.

“I’m also excited about working for Brookfield. It’s a wonderful company with a great philosophy, and we are going to do great things for the seniors in the Hot Springs area.”

Kai said she’s been working hard to get everything in line for the residents of the community. “The building is coming together, our staff is coming together, and we are going to have a great program in place, waiting for our first residents move in.”

In addition to the health care needs of the residents, caring for their social and mental needs are important to her as well. “We want to make sure that they are well cared for in every way.” Safety, or course, is of utmost importance when dealing with those who have dementia. The secured building will provide residents with a comfortable home environment, while maintaining their safety and security.

Daily activities for the residents are planned, with the functional abilities of each resident being taken into account. “I’ve had wonderful training in this area, and I can’t wait to put some really great programs into place for our residents.” One of the programs planned for the near future is Memories in the Making – a nationwide art program for seniors with dementia through Alzheimer’s Association. “It’s an incredible program,” she explained. “It’s not about creating art with the person with dementia, it’s about giving them another means of interaction, of expressing themselves, and raising their self-esteem.”

Kai has received certification as an Assisted Living Administrator through Health Care Training Associates, in cooperation with the Arkansas Assisted Living Association. She has lived in Hot Springs for 19 years with her husband and two children.

New Employees Meeting

The first meeting of the prospective employees for Brookfield Assisted Living and Memory Care was held Wednesday evening, and it went great! The employee team members who were in attendance were all very excited about the building. “It’s so beautiful!” was a common sentiment and “I can’t wait to get started”. Policies, work schedules, and other information were discussed, but the time was mainly for people to get to know their fellow team members a little bit.
One of the items proposed was very well received. We will have “Casual for a Cause” Fridays. Unlike other businesses who have implemented “Casual Fridays”, we wanted our Fridays to have a purpose, other than just allowing employees to wear blue jeans one day a week. Each team member who wears blue jeans on Friday will donate $1 to Alzheimer’s Arkansas. The jeans must be clean and neat, and stand up to the same qualifications as other uniform pants worn on a regular basis. Those who don’t wish to participate are welcome to wear their normal work wear.
Each fall, when Alzheimer’s Arkansas holds their annual fundraiser Walk, we will then donate the money we’ve collected all year for the cause. We appreciate the work Alzheimer’s Arkansas does for families in Arkansas, and want to help support that in any way we can.

Open House NEXT MONTH!!

As work continued at the building site, it was a week of behind-the-scenes work for the staff. Traffic through the model room at Cornerstone Shopping Center increased, and several more rooms are now spoken for. Prospective residents and their families are enjoying the advantage of touring the building and actually seeing what everything looks like and where everything is. The fact that the building is beautiful is a big help, as well!
Staffing issues took up a great deal of administrative time. The teams for both buildings are coming together, and there is growing excitement among those in the group to be able to officially start their new positions with Brookfield.
Dr. Daniel Owens has agreed to act as Medical Director for our community. We are excited about what that will mean for our residents. Dr. Owens will visit the community once a month to check on each resident, and will be available at other times as needed.
Plans for the Open House continue to move along. The box of invitations has arrived, and we are compiling the mailing list for those. The date will be here before we know it. Mark your calendars for September 24th, 25th, and 26th, and be sure to come out and visit our beautiful new community on one of those dates!

Looking like Home!

Construction Progress

It’s beginning to look like a home in the Brookfield of Hot Springs Assisted Living building! The work crews have been hard at work, and their efforts show. With carpeting laid throughout the building, handrails running the length of the halls, and ceiling fans turning lazily in the community living room, it’s a very welcoming atmosphere to greet our prospective residents and their families when they come to tour.
Except for a few cosmetic touches here and there, the 42 rooms are finished, and will soon be ready for occupancy.
The reception/office area is also coming along well, and will be a welcoming entry point for visitors in the future.
Meanwhile, the sod has been laid in the inner courtyard, and the trees are ready to be planted when the heat breaks. The little patio areas are ready to welcome residents’ outside furniture, bird houses and flower containers.
Work in the Memory Care building is progressing nicely, still a few weeks behind the AL building, but on track to welcome residents in mid-October.
Response has been very positive this week from those who have toured the building, and the excitement is growing in the community at large about what Brookfield will mean for Hot Springs and the surrounding areas.
We’re busily compiling lists of those we want to specially invite to our Open House in the AL building on September 24, 25 and 26. It’s going to be a great party, and the more the merrier! Until then, our office in Cornerstone is still the ‘hub’ of our Hot Springs operation, and this week, we’ve seen an increase in interest from those in the community who are looking for the services we offer. That’s as exciting to us as the building progress! We can’t wait to be in our new home, welcoming residents into their new home.
